Ford has given us a line up of legendary SUVs and pick up trucks. It hasn’t lagged behind even when it came to competing in the market of hybrid suvs and crossovers.

Ford Escape Hybrid will always be known as one of the models which laid foundation to an empire of hybrid SUVs, which was being built by the different auto makes.
First released in 2005, Escape Hybrid was the first actual hybrid SUV. While the outlook of the model did not differ from the non-hybrid model, it essentially pumped a power of a V6 engine while maintaining the gas economy of a 4 cylinder engine.

2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

2006 was the first year model for Escape Hybrid. As compared to its previous non hybrid version, the hybrid model comes with some package changes and a new power moon-roof. It is offered with front wheel drive or all wheel drive SUV.
It is powered by a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder engine which is equipped with 2 electric motors and together they can manage a horsepower of 155 hp @ 6000 rpm and torque of 124 ft-lbs. @ 4250 rpm. The engine comes mated with a continuously variable-speed automatic gearbox.
IIHS has given “Good” safety rating for various strenuous crash tests. On city roads, Escape hybrid mpg is close to 30 mpg and on highways it offers 28 mpg. A used 2006 Escape hybrid can come at a price of $13,300.
2007 Ford Escape Hybrid

We didn’t see too many changes in the 2007 hybrid model. The power-train warranty was extended to 5 years/60,000 miles. The interior is comfortable and roomy. The model can touch a mileage of 30 mpg easily.
On the other side we feel, over stiff pedals and noisy four cylinder engine do become a turn off at times. The price of an used 2007 Escape hybrid is close to $16,000.
2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

In 2008, the hybrid undergoes some exterior styling changes and some noticeable interior features changes. The cabin gets revamped to give a better look and to become user-friendly. The drives now become noise free because of proper insulation. Side curtain and head curtain airbags along with MP3 player input jack and automatic climate control go standard on the model.
The optional navigation unit plays DVDs in place of CDs and they get a bigger display touchscreen.
The price of an used 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid can come close to $20,000.
2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

2009 hybrid undergoes an evolution with a line up of significant changes. The model becomes larger and more power pumping than before. The mileage enhances noticeably. Ford’s Sync system debut in the model and stability control goes standard. Another significant change is the addition of Limited trim level in the line up. Ambient cabin lighting enhances the interior beauty and capless fuel filter system too makes a statement.
The price range of 2009 Hybrid depending on the trim level varies from $22,000 to $24,000.
2010 Escape Hybrid

We yet again see some significant internal changes on 2010 Escape hybrid. Blind-spot mirrors go standard on all the trims. The newer optional goodies include rear-view camera, “Auto Park” feature and MyKey The air-conditioning system gets electrically driven in instead of belt-driven by the gas engine, this helps in good A/C performance when the engine has stopped.

2011 Ford Escape Hybrid

Ford’s MyKey system goes standard on all the trim levels; other than this, we only see some minor optional package changes. With a city limit mileage of 34 mpg and highway mileage of 31 mpg , the 2011 Escape hybrid model is the most fuel efficient SUV out there. It has gained top class scores in various crash test results.
All the great features, in 2011 Escape hybrid come at a steep MSRP tag of $30,570.
Over a period of last 5 to 6 years, Ford Escape Hybrid has opened a lot of gates for commercialization of mainstream hybrid SUVs.
